The Clark College Women's Choral Ensemble under the direction of April Duvic and Clark College Chorale, directed by Janet Reiter and April Duvic, will present their Spring Concert "An American Portrait" Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, 401 E. 33rd St., Vancouver. Highlights of the program will feature the Women's Ensemble singing two American spirituals, Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit and Down to the River to Pray, an Ave Maria by Portland composer Joan Szymko, and, quoting sections of the Declaration of Independence and My County 'Tis of Thee, I Once Had a Dream by John Purifoy. The Chorale takes a historic look at the United States through its selections including: Chester by Revolutionary War era composer William Billings, the spiritual Soon Ah Will Be Done by William Dawson, the Traditional American Folk Song Cindy arranged by Carol Barnett, the inspirational Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor about the Statue of Liberty, and a selection from "Ragtime" entitled Wheels of a Dream.
