Special Appearance by Vocalist Julianne R. Johnson
The Blues, Gospel and a Medley of Holiday Favorites!
Fall in Love with the Holidays all over again!
Come and enjoy the Blues, Gospel and Holiday classics in a special performance by The Mike Strickland Trio and guest vocalist Julianne R. Johnson. For years, The Mike Strickland Trio has delighted Northwest and national audiences with lush arrangements of popular and original music, Blues, Jazz, classical and piano-busting boogie-woogie numbers. Joining the Trio for this special Gospel and Holiday concert is Portland's own soulful singer Julianne R. Johnson.
As a gifted arranger, piano stylist and composer, Mike Strickland's eclectic sets highlight the superb individual talents of each group member. Playing all styles on acoustic and electric bass, Clipper Anderson is a composer, studio musician, vocalist and educator. Master of saxophones, flutes and clarinet, Jack Klitzman has appeared in concert with such artists as Natalie Cole, Johnny Mathis, Gladys Knight and the Four Tops, among many others. Besides being director of Vocal Music at Portland Community College, Julianne R. Johnson's musical talents have been or will be seen in Portland productions of Dreamgirls, The Wiz, Gypsy and as a co-star in Michael Allen Harrison's production of Prometheus.

VSO PRESENTS THE "BIG HORN BRASS CHRISTMAS SHOW" SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19
Local favorite Valerie Day sings with big band at Vancouver's LifePoint Church
(Vancouver, WA) The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra proudly presents a tuneful Christmas concert that will put the audience in the holiday spirit. The "Big Horn Brass Christmas Show" with Valerie Day will play Vancouver's LifePoint Church on Saturday, December 19 at 7:30 pm.
The concert consists of new arrangements of old favorites accompanied by a video presentation, as well as Christmas carols and standards guaranteed to warm you up for the season. "Big Horn Brass" has been an area favorite since 1983. The sixteen-piece big band consists of brass and percussion instruments, and is conducted by David Bryan. The band boasts VSO musicians Douglas Peebles on bass trombone, Mark Vehrencamp on tuba and Bruce Dunn on trumpet.
Dynamic and self-assured, vocalist Valerie Day has a voice that is evocative of another time, yet refreshingly modern. Remembered for her work with the Grammy nominated band NU SHOOZ, Valerie has returned to her musical roots and her love of jazz. Whether fronting a big band or singing with a small jazz combo, Valerie injects new life into standards from the Great American Songbook with impressive range and effortless delivery. Valerie is currently an in-demand singer and session player, performing and recording with artists ranging from the Oregon Symphony Pops to pianist Tom Grant. She recently premiered "Brain Chemistry For Lovers" - a concert/cabaret/science lecture about romantic love - with Darrell Grant and the Portland Chamber Orchestra.
LifePoint Church (and its acoustically-perfect auditorium) is located at 305 NE 192 nd Ave in Vancouver. Tickets go on sale on Monday, November 9 at http:// www.vancouversymphony.org. Tickets are priced at $15 for adults, with children under 12 admitted free of charge.
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is a 70-member professional orchestra presenting outstanding guest artists and varied programs October through May in a six-concert season.
