Bravo! Vancouver Presents:
Symphonic "Firsts" of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn
The Bravo! Vancouver Concert Series continues its 15th season with a Sunday, May 17th at 3:00 PM concert called "Symphonic Firsts." The concert features the first symphonies of classical period composers Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Mozart and Ludwig Beethoven by the Washington Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Michael Kissinger. The concert is at St. Joseph Church, 400 S. Andresen Road, Vancouver 98661.
The music played on this concert will be both entertaining and historically educational, in that the performance will feature the first symphonies of the 'Big Three' classical composers-Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. Haydn wrote his Symphony #1 in 1759, Mozart composed his in 1765, and Beethoven completed his Symphony #1 in 1800. "By performing all three of these 'firsts' our audience will not only hear great music, they'll also hear the historical development of the symphony from a short, simple set of dance-like pieces in Haydn and Mozart to the big, mature structure of the fully developed classical symphony of Beethoven" says Kissinger. Like many art forms, new musical styles-from the classical symphony to jazz-usually began as fairly simple forms. But as the musical style is developed, it becomes more interesting and complex as the form is developed and grows. "The history of film animation is a great example of how an art form develops" says Kissinger. "The early animated work of Walt Disney and his 'Steamboat Willie' animated short films are rudimentary, compared to the computer generated animation of modern film studios. But Disney's Steamboat Willie was cutting edge in 1928, because it featured synchronized sound with animation. That art form grew as a result of the work of Walt Disney. Music is similar. We wouldn't have the fully mature symphonic forms of Beethoven without the earlier symphonies of Haydn." Also on the concert will be Mozart's Clarinet Concerto with Kissinger performing the solo clarinet part. Dr. Kissinger performed the Concerto this past April with the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra in Croatia, where he serves as United States Guest Conductor.
Tickets are $20 for reserved seating and may be purchased at www.bravoconcerts.com or the Bravo! Box Office: 360-906-0441; TicketsWest at 1-800-992-8499 or www.ticketswest.com. Bravo! Vancouver presents an annual concert series of classical, sacred, jazz and chamber music; and produces the annual Vancouver Wine & Jazz Festival, recognized as "…the largest festival of its kind in the Northwest…" (KATU Channel 2, Portland, Oregon).
