THE 47TH ANNUAL CLARK COLLEGE JAZZ FESTIVAL, JANUARY 29, 30, 31, 2009
VANCOUVER, Wash. - Clark College and Director of Bands, Rich Inouye, invite you to join us in celebrating Clark's 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary this year by listening to three full days of exciting vocal and big band jazz at the 47th Annual Clark College Jazz Festival! This celebrated 47 year old tradition, over half of Clark College's history, will take place Thursday through Saturday, January 29-31, in Gaiser Hall on the Clark College campus.
Forty-five jazz ensembles and fifteen vocal jazz ensembles from throughout Washington and Oregon are scheduled to perform in this year's high school competition with awards presented to the top three groups in each class, A through AAAA. The sweepstakes trophy and the honor to be featured at next year's festival will be presented to one outstanding band participating in the festival. Additionally, awards will be presented to outstanding vocal and instrumental soloists throughout the entire festival.
Preliminary competitions for the 2009 festival will take place on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with final competitions beginning at 7 p.m. Vocal jazz groups will compete on Thursday, January 29, in A, AA, and AAA divisions. On Friday, January 30, the A and AA division jazz bands will compete, with AAA and AAAA jazz bands taking the stage on Saturday, January 31.
The showcased bands this year will be the Clark College Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Janet Reiter, performing at noon and 9 p.m. on Thursday, and the Clark College Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Director of Bands, Rich Inouye, performing at noon and 9 p.m. on Friday, and at noon on Saturday. The 2008 Sweepstakes Band, Roosevelt Jazz Band II, under the direction of Roosevelt alum, Stuart MacDonald, will hold the spotlight on Saturday evening at 9:00 p.m.
Admission is $5 per day. Clark College students and children under 12 accompanied by an adult will be admitted free of charge.
Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. Gaiser Hall is located on the northwest corner of the main campus on Fort Vancouver Way, between McLoughlin Blvd. and Fourth Plain Blvd. Please enter through the newly remodeled North entrance or the South entrance of Gaiser Hall.
